Wyoming Wildlife and
Natural Resources Trust Fund

Wyoming is home to a vast array of resources that together build our state's identity. To maintain this legacy, The Wyoming Legislature created the Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust in 2005. Funded by interest earned on a permanent account, donations, and legislative appropriation, the program is designed to enhance and conserve wildlife habitat and natural resource values throughout the state. Any project designed to improve wildlife habitat or natural resource values is eligible for funding.

Fast FactsThe Belvoir Ranch Master Plan project applied for and was awarded a $40,000 planning grant to aid in the completion of a comprehensive plan for this City-owned property. With state funding, complimented by resources from the City of Cheyenne and the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities, this plan will incorporate an analysis of the property's resources and achieve a balance of development and preservation. Wildlife populations, cultural resources, and sensitive biological areas will be considered along with water development opportunities, recreation, and other municipal needs to create a plan that identifies strategies for achieving the community's vision for the property.

The Belvoir Ranch Master Plan is the first project awarded a grant by the WWNRTF for planning. The Board based approval on the tenet that physical improvements can have a greater impact when they are carefully coordinated, evaluated and implemented based on a broader guiding vision. With the Master Plan in hand, the Belvoir Ranch can be managed and improved over time with projects that build upon previous efforts while creating a landscape-scale conservation program for the Cheyenne community.
